Matinee: Fireweed

Fireweed is an Edmonton-based duo featuring the combined talents of Debbie Houle and Jenn Dahlen. Each member brings a celebrated musical lineage to the stage. Debbie Houle is a JUNO-nominated Cree vocalist and co-founder of the historic a cappella group Asani. Jenn Dahlen is a multi-instrumentalist whose warm vocals, guitar, and expressive clarinet phrasings ground the group's melodic arrangements. Supporting the duo is Johwanna Alleyne vocalist and bass player, a staple of the Edmonton jazz community, host of The Standard Show on Big E Radio, and a regular rhythm section player at the Yardbird Suite. The duo's repertoire seamlessly weaves together deeply personal original stories in song with classic, resonant covers by master contemporary folk songwriters Mary Gauthier and Alberta-born Jennifer Berezan. Together, they create a warm, acoustic listening experience that honors the traditions of roots and folk.
